Hello all! Another week done and we’re nearing the end of March. Time flies for better or for worse.

For a number of reasons, this week was not as productive as last. One scene in particular proved irritatingly stubborn, and another day was largely spent brainstorming and reorganizing. But I managed to finish the week strong with a grand total of 5619 words. Less than last week, but still respectable at my current level, and I came close to last week’s personal best which gives me hope that I can continue to increase my average.

So I’m going to tentatively raise my weekly goal to 700 words a day/ 4900 total (again largely because of the math. Sadly 7 doesn’t go into 5000 evenly.) We’ll see how that goes.

As always, I hope you have a good week.

Happy reading and happy writing!

Hello everyone! Hope you had a good week!

I’ve begun to notice a pattern. It seems that at the beginning of every week my writing stalls a bit before picking up again somewhere around Wednesday. I started last week with a pair of dismal writing days for a variety of reasons, but Saturday was my best day of the year so far and as a result I wrote a grand total of 6646 words this week.

This experiment seems to be working. My writing totals have been trending upwards this year, and my daily average has been slowly building, which was the main goal of forcing myself to publicly keep track. Having said that, I don’t think I’m quite ready to up my weekly goals a second time just yet. So this week I’m going to once stick with my goal of 600 words a day/ 4200 total. If this is a good week I may revise upwards next time. Onwards!

Hope you have a good week.

Happy reading and happy writing!

Hello everyone! Hope you had a good week! And I hope it was warmer than mine. Seasonably appropriate temperatures feel colder when the rest of the winter is unusually warm. Global warming!

This week, despite one day where I barely managed 100 words, I wrote a grand total of 5714 words. Which is the most I’ve managed in a single week for quite some time. At my absolute peek a few years ago I did have a brief spurt where I was averaging 2000-3000 words a day, but that was more of a sprint then a marathon.

As I get closer and closer to the end of the draft, I hope the light at the end of the long, long tunnel will motivate me to recapture my former word count glory. We shall see.

In any case, this week I’m going to stick with my goal of 600 words a day/ 4200 total. See if I can keep it up. Onwards!

Hope you have a good week.

Happy reading and happy writing!

Goals and deadlines. The clock never stops ticking! Aaaaah!

Greetings! It is the penultimate day of February, the weather is unseasonably warm, and I have just returned from a fun-filled visit to the dentist. Have you ever tried brainstorming while someone has their hand in their mouth, fiddling with your teeth? It’s not as easy as it sounds.

In other non-tooth related news, I wrote 4653 words this week, exactly 14 words less than last week, but comfortably more than my new 4200 word goal.

I spent some time this week trying to figure out a hazily realized tangle of scenes. I knew the space they needed to fill and what needed to happen, but the particulars were not as clear in my head as I thought, and it wasn’t quite working right. I think I’ve figured out how to make it work but it would have required changing the setting. So instead I kept going, as if I’d already made the changes. More work for the 2nd draft!

In any case, this week I’m going to stick with my goal of 600 words a day/ 4200 total. See if I can keep it up. Digits still crossed.

Hope you have a good week.

Happy reading and happy writing!

Happy President’s Day (Apparently)!

Clearly I have no sense of time, but I hope you’ve had a good week and that if you’re in the US I hope you enjoy the holiday and the…er…car sales.

This week I wrote 4667 words once again managing to do much better than I thought I had. It’s nice at the end of a week to find you’ve been more productive than you thought.

Events are reaching a fever pitch. Plans are colliding, violence is erupting, and I’m quickly approaching certain confrontations that I’ve been looking forward to writing for nearly a year now. So that’s exciting, and I’m tentative hoping to finally have the draft done within the next 2-3 weeks. Tentatively.

On that note, I’m going to change my writing goals for the first time. Since I’ve managed 4000 words or more the past two weeks I’m going to make that my goal going forward. 600 words a day/ 4200 total. (Because 4000 didn’t divide evenly into 7. It’s the little things.) So we’ll see how that goes. Fingers crossed.

In any case, I hope you have a good week.

Happy reading and happy writing!

Hello everyone! I hope you’ve had a good week. Mine was…passable. Neither good nor bad, really, but when I went to tally my word count I found that I had done far better than I expected. I somehow managed 4116 words despite feeling like I was failing miserably. So appearances can be deceptive, apparently, and what I thought was a long, slog of a week was actually more than usually successful.

As always, my goal for the coming week will remain 500 words a day/ 3500 total. The next chapter feels a little hazier in my mind than the outline suggested, so I may have to spend a day or two fleshing that out. In any case, I hope you have a good week.

Happy reading and happy writing!

Just a quick update today. Last week was not overwhelmingly productive for a number of reasons, but hopefully I can fix that this week.

Last week I managed 2847 words. And as always, my goal for the coming week will remain 500 words a day/ 3500 total. I’m finally hitting the climatic parts where everyone’s plans and machinations collide. Hopefully that will propel the writing.

Happy reading and happy writing!

It’s 2017!!! A slightly belated (although it is still January after all, if only barely) Happy New Year! I realize it’s been awhile since I last did one of these. Three months actually. Time flies and I had such plans, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t still been writing. My draft now stands at 104,323 words with more still to come. I’m now predicting about 120,000 total, but I keep blowing past my estimates and have largely decided to just let this draft be however big it is going to be. C’est le draft!

This past week I managed 3636 words. I’ve left the cutting and editing behind for the moment and have been just straight drafting. No more rewriting until the second draft.

This week (1/23-1/29) my goal will remain the same as ever: 500 words a day/ 3500 total. I narrowly squeaked by last week, but hopefully this week will be more productive. I have big plans for this year, not least of which is finally finishing this draft.

In any case, happy (still belated) new year! And happy reading and/or writing!

It’s October! When did that happen? (Well, technically on Saturday, but that’s not the point.) So I’m actually away at the moment, in a far away land where there is no internet. In fact, I’ve been away the past few days, which means I’m writing this in advance on Friday and my totals won’t take into account Saturday and Sunday. It also means I’m not sure how much writing I’ll get done these next few weeks. C’est la vie!

In any case, so far this week I’ve managed to write 5176 words (slightly more in fact because of editing and cutting. As always rewriting skews the numbers.) but far more importantly I’ve finished 3 and a half edited/rewritten chapters and am done with rewriting. From here on out (at least until the next draft) it’s all straightforward drafting!

This week (10/3-10/9) I’m going to keep what’s becoming my standard goal of 500 words a day/ 3500 total. I’ve been averaging more than that but I’m not expecting this week to be quite so productive with travel time and visiting. Starting next week I may begin setting myself more ambitious goals, but for now, I hope you have a good week.

Happy reading and happy writing!

Greetings! As always I hope you’ve had a good week. Mine as it turns out was happily, if unexpectedly, productive. One thing I’m starting to notice is that I set these goals for myself, but then during the week I get lost in the trenches day by day and forget what goals I actually set. Which could be good or bad. Not sure myself.

Anyway! I managed 5380 words this past week, almost 2000 words more than my goal, which makes me feel good, especially since I probably cut about 1000 words as well, meaning my actual word count was a little higher.  As always the number of completed edited/rewritten chapters is slightly more important, and I managed to complete 4 and a half last week meaning that I’m almost done with the rewriting/editing and will be able to get back to uninterrupted drafting. All in all a pretty good week.

This week (9/26-10/2) I’m going to keep last week’s goals of 500 words a day/ 3500 total and 4 edited/rewritten chapters. I did better this week, but that was largely because I managed 1600 words on Saturday. At my absolute height a few years ago I was able to do 2000-3500 a day, but I need to get back into the flow before I can assume that level of productivity.

The idea was to hold myself accountable and build myself back up one week at a time, and so far at least it seems to be working. Digits crossed…

Have a good week. Happy reading and happy writing!
